About the California Social Welfare Archives (CSWA) and the California Social
Work Hall of Distinction:
Established in 1979, CSWA acquires and preserves materials of historical significance
and conducts and publishes oral history interviews with social work pioneers in order to
document the development of social welfare in California. The Archives are available to
those seeking to examine our history in order to inform understanding of contemporary
problems and potential solutions.
In 2002, the California Social Work Hall of Distinction was added to CSWA’s mission
and honors individuals who have made exceptional contributions to social welfare and
the social work profession. The inductee biographies and interviews found in the Hall
provide the basis for research projects by social work students throughout California
and the nation.

We encourage you to visit our websites and view videos of our events and interviews.
