It all started with a few kittens in a backyard.

In 2004, Jim and Nancy Engel discovered a small colony of cats living among the pine trees near their Frankenmuth home. What began as helping trap, neuter, and rehome a handful of kittens quickly turned into something much bigger. Word spread, more calls came in, and before they knew it, the Engel family was running a full-fledged cat rescue out of their basement.

By 2005, Pet Angel had outgrown that basement and moved to our current location on List Street—expanding from one room to seven and growing into the rescue we are today.

Now, Pet Angel is a non-profit 501(c)(3), no-kill shelter focused on giving cats the time, love, and environment they need to thrive. In recent years, we’ve shifted our focus to the cats who need us most—bonded pairs, shy or scared cats, and those with a few extra needs—helping them find the perfect forever homes at their own pace.

Since opening, we’ve helped approximately 2,500 cats and kittens find loving homes. Every cat that comes through our doors is spayed/neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and cared for by our dedicated team of volunteers.

Why This Auction Matters

Our Annual Auction helps fund our rescue during the summer months—when adoptions slow down and donations tend to dip. Every bid you place helps provide food, medical care, and a safe, loving space for the cats who rely on us.

Important Auction Dates 📅

  • Bidding Opens: Thursday, May 7th at 8:00 AM
  • Bidding Closes: Saturday, May 9th at 8:00 PM

Shipping & Item Details 📦

Good news—most items can be shipped!

If you’re not local, you can still join in the fun and support our cats. Just be sure to:

  • Check the bottom of each item’s description to see if it’s shippable
  • Note that shipping costs will be invoiced separately
  • Keep in mind that larger items may cost more to ship

After the Auction Ends 🐱

If you’re a winning bidder (yay!), here’s what happens next:

  • You’ll receive an email with your invoice
  • Once your invoice is paid, we’ll contact you to arrange:
    • Local pickup, or
    • Add you to our shipping list

Local Pickup Dates: May 14th & 15th
We’ll coordinate a time that works for you so your items are ready and waiting!

Shipping:
Items will be shipped the week of May 18th. After your items are sent, you’ll receive a separate invoice for shipping costs.
