Family Nurse Practitioner Scholarship

CareFIRST Carolina Foundation and CareSouth Carolina are partnering with the Francis Marion University Nursing program to fund a scholarship program to bring more Family Nurse practitioners into our area.  Local medical providers are needed in the Pee Dee Region and the Francis Marion University School of Nursing is able to help us select candidates for consideration.  There will be two separate scholarships available.  One will go to two (2) students in the Bachelor of Nursing program for undergraduate study each for one thousand dollars ($1,000.00).  The second will be a full tuition scholarship for a student In the Family Nurse Practioner program, selected by the University staff and CareSouth Carolinas team.  These candidates will be encouraged to stay in our region and provide medical care in the many medically underserved areas of the Pee Dee.

The purpose of this scholarship is to provide financial assistance to an MSN/FNP student who is enrolled in the Francis Marion University BSN/FNP program.  Archie “TIM” Brown was a graduate of the FMU Nursing Program. After completing the program, Tim went back to work in the community he grew up in, Latta SC.

This Scholarship is named in honor of  Archie “TIM” Brown,a CareSouth Carolina, BSN, Family Nurse Practioner who worked in the Latta office of CareSouth. Tim worked his way through the FMU nursing program while serving as a University Police officer. First as a nursing student and later as a Family Nurse Practioner student and graduate.  Like Tim, this scholarship is unique, in its offering to potential candidates educational support

The board of the CareFIRST Carolina Foundation felt that to honor Tim’s exceptional work ethic and drive to serve his community, it was best celebrated with a scholarship for a student with similar gifts who would like to stay and serve others in our communities to improve healthcare access in our region.  Tim lost his life unexpectedly and was only beginning to touch on his vast potential as a caregiver.  From mentoring youth, working with underserved and migrant patients as well as being a teacher and roll model at the Francis Marion University Nursing program, he continued to excel in his chosen path.
