About This Auction
This online auction is a collaborative effort between Shinta Mani Hotels and the Shinta Mani Foundation, with all proceeds dedicated to the conservation of the Cardamom Rainforest—one of the last unfragmented rainforests in Southeast Asia. This vast and biodiverse landscape is home to over 54 species on the IUCN Red List, including clouded leopards, Sunda pangolins, Asian elephants, and sun bears. But this vital ecosystem is under constant threat from deforestation, illegal poaching, and unsustainable land use.
A Vision by Bill Bensley
This initiative is led by Bill Bensley, the world-renowned architect, designer, and conservationist who has spent decades advocating for sustainable tourism and community empowerment. Bill co-founded the Shinta Mani Foundation in 2004 with the belief that hospitality can be a force for good, creating opportunities for education, healthcare, and environmental protection. His projects, including Shinta Mani Wild, are designed not just as luxury destinations, but as models for conservation and responsible tourism.
Shinta Mani Wild, a high-yield, low-impact camp, was built with a singular mission: to protect the Cardamom Rainforest and its endangered inhabitants. The camp’s revenues directly fund anti-poaching patrols in collaboration with Wildlife Alliance, a non-profit organization that has been actively defending Cambodia’s forests since 1995. These rangers work tirelessly to dismantle snares, rescue illegally captured animals, and prevent deforestation—ensuring that the region's wildlife has a fighting chance to survive.
Your Impact
Every bid placed in this auction directly supports the fight against wildlife crime and deforestation. Thanks to dedicated efforts, real progress has been made in protecting the Cardamoms. To date, conservation teams have:
- Removed over 13,500 snares—deadly traps that pose a major threat to wildlife.
- Prevented 333 forest fires, saving thousands of hectares of rainforest.
- Seized 43 illegal firearms used by poachers and loggers.
- Confiscated 706 chainsaws used for illegal logging.
- Rescued and released a variety of endangered animals, including 105 turtles, 11 civets, 2 sun bears, and a pangolin.
Funds raised from this auction will be used to:
- Equip and sustain ranger patrols to prevent poaching and illegal logging.
- Build additional ranger stations to expand the protected area.
- Rescue and rehabilitate endangered species from the illegal wildlife trade.
- Support local communities by offering alternative livelihoods to destructive industries.
By participating, you are not only acquiring extraordinary items and experiences but also playing a vital role in preserving one of the world's last great rainforests.
