Description

Philadelphia's Centennial International Exhibition (officially titled the International Exhibition of Arts, Manufacturers, and Products of the Soil and Mine) not only commemorated the 100th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, but also marked the first World's Fair to be held in the United States. This 3" bronze medal was engraved by Henry Mitchell (1835-1916) and struck at the U.S. Mint. About 12,000 medals in total were awarded to exhibitors displaying innovation and originality, design and craftsmanship, practical utility, and scientific achievement.
