Description

Handcrafted 1:12 Wooden Model of the KATY American Type Locomotive & Pullman Coach
Built in 1899 by C.N. Predock
A remarkable handcrafted wooden model capturing the golden age of American railroads — this 1:12 scale (1” = 1’) KATY American Type 4-4-0 Locomotive No. 925 with tender and Pullman coach “Elmont” is a masterwork of precision and passion. Constructed in 1899 by C.N. Predock, this museum-quality piece reflects both extraordinary craftsmanship and historical authenticity. Approximately 68"L x 13"W x 14"H

Locomotive:
The painted wooden locomotive features an upholstered cab, mica windows, and a functioning bell cord that rings the brass bell. Every mechanical element — from the rotating, sprung drive wheels to the piston rods, valve eccentrics, and linkages — has been faithfully represented in intricate detail.

Tender:
The MK&T-labeled tender includes a removable water tank cover, a fabric-hinged tool box lid, and a classic link-and-pin coupler with a brass pin on a chain — all hand-fashioned to scale.

Pullman Passenger Car:
The Pullman coach, finished in Pullman green with burgundy velour-style seats, boasts mica windows, brass doorknobs, and even a working fabric-hinged door. The removable roof reveals a beautifully rendered interior, illuminated by cobalt blue clerestory glass windows — a nod to the luxury of early rail travel.

Track & Case:
The display rests upon hand-spiked, painted wooden track with machined fish plates, all enclosed in a wooden display case with clear acrylic panels (lightly scratched from age).

Provenance:
A label attributes this model to Charles Norville Predock (1859–1934) of Franklin, Missouri — a craftsman whose hometown was shaped by the very railroad he immortalized in miniature.

Condition:
Shows gentle signs of age consistent with its 19th-century origin, but remains complete, stable, and impressively preserved — a rare surviving artifact of early American model engineering.
