Description
This is a French Louis XVI period giltwood mirror from the 18th century, around 1780. The frame is made of carved giltwood wood. The crest features a carved bouquet of flowers falling from an urn or basket, flanked by carved foliage common for the era. The mirror has a rectangular shape with decorative carvings in the corners and fluted stiles. The frame is made of carved wood and features a gilt finish that shows some wear, revealing red undertones. The red layer underneath is typical for antique items. An interesting fact is that mirrors like this were given as wedding gifts and placed in a bridal chest dating back to the 1600s. The worn gilding adds character and there are some repairs to be expected on this old and treasured item. Note: the top of the frame has been broken and the price reflects the imperfection. *see photo Photos do not give this special piece the justice it deserves.
