A Posing Black-Capped Chickadee

Original artwork by Ashley Mochinski of Lakeville, MN Oil 7.875" x 5.875" Artist statement: This painting is based on a photo I took earlier in the year. I was drawn to paint the composition because of the contrast from the shadows to the highlights, especially on the Chickadee's face where those colors stand so close together. Similarly, I adore the pose the chickadee was caught in, hanging on to a branch as it was eating a berry or seed before flying away just moments later. Its the kind of moment I see all of the time but rarely am able to capture or recreate.
