Description
Otsego County, NY. 14x11". This magnificent stone barn, built in 1918, sits on the grounds of the Farmers' Museum in Cooperstown, a village well known for baseball's hallowed hall. The farm traces back to the era of William Cooper, though he didn't build the barn. His well-known son, James Fenimore, wrote the Deerslayer and Last of the Mohicans. Much later, in the throes of the Great Depression, a family member decided that a baseball hall of fame might attract tourists, helping the local economy. He was right. This painting can be seen at the Shalersville Historical Society, located in Shalersville, Oh. Call with questions 740 389-0598
