Description
This Asian-style ink and wash painting is by artist Fran Mason. The artwork uses traditional East Asian techniques involving a brush and ink (sumi-e) with light watercolor washes on paper, a style known as shan shui in Chinese, meaning "mountain-water". The painting depicts a natural landscape featuring twisted trees and foliage on rocky cliffs above water, a common subject in Chinese and Japanese art symbolizing longevity and resilience. The red square seals, or hanko/inkan, are characteristic of East Asian art and typically denote the artist's name. The inscription "9/90" is likely a date reference (September 1990). The art is presented in a simple, thin gold-toned frame with a wide, off-white or cream-colored matting and is ready to hang.
Color: Blues with brown and pink with off-white matting, gold frame
