About Oakland Zoo

"How wonderful to be here in a zoo that is doing so much to protect and restore the natural world."
—Jane Goodall

Oakland Zoo was established on June 6, 1922.

As one of Oakland’s most long-standing institutions, they are nationally recognized as a leader in animal welfare, rescue, and conservation; and have served as a place of wonder and discovery for millions of people over the years.

Their commitment to animal care is evident in many ways – through their groundbreaking work in animal management practices and the large, naturalistic, species-considerate habitats for animals. They believe that thriving animals engaged in their environment are healthier, happier, and help inspire zoo guests to be stewards of the natural world.

Their work extends well beyond the Zoo. With over 25 wildlife conservation partners globally, they take pride in providing funds to support their programs and efforts to save wildlife. Through a partnership with California Department of Fish & Wildlife, they accept, rehabilitate, and re-home wildlife rescued from wildfire and human-wildlife conflict. In the past five years alone, this includes 17 mountain lions, 36 California condors, 8 bears, and over 600 yellow-legged frogs.

Additional Information

Our mission is to improve the lives of all domestic and out in the wild animals in our county!

Advocates of Contra Costa County is a group that urgently formed in 2024 in response to the rising numbers of animals placed on euthanasia lists in Contra Costa County and the policies that don't go far enough to provide resources for the shelters or rescues working hard to keep our furry friends free from harm. AACCC serves as a hub to help rescue groups and volunteers, do outreach in the community as well as advocacy work educating the community and elected officials of the important needs of our county animals. We’re optimistic that all these efforts are making a huge impact on the animals but it takes time, perseverance, and of course, funding.

This auction and fundraiser will be raising funds to support spay and neuter efforts of two non-profits in the county who are dedicated to helping the community.

Stitch in Time Animal Rescue (STAR), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing medical intervention to injured or sick animals and saving them from neglect, abuse, preventable suffering, and unjustified euthanasia. Since its founding in 2018, STAR has provided rigorous evaluation, medical care, fostering, and adoption, STAR does everything within its power to ensure that these animals receive the compassion and futures they deserve.

STAR has rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of animals, providing second chances and ongoing care for animals who would otherwise face a life of suffering and early death from injuries, illness or euthanasia at institutions that could not treat or house them. Len Welsh and the devoted board members of STAR are passionate animal advocates and have spearheaded efforts to address overcrowded shelters, rescue at-risk medically compromised animals, and find them loving homes.

Community Concern 4 Cats (CC4C) is an all-volunteer cat rescue making a difference in Contra Costa County, California. They are the life line for fostering, adopting, or and spay and neuter. They are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit cat rescue organization. In the past year alone, Community Concern for Cats helped over 1,300 cats and kittens find loving homes, provided spay/neuter services for 3,300 cats, and delivered medical care to thousands of cats and kittens.

The silent auction is online from November 11, 2025 starting at 11:00 a.m. and ending December 12, 2025 at 12:00 am.
