Flight of Fancy size: 14" poplar materials: acrylic and water soluble oil on wood Statement: Joining ArtFeeds last fall was such an incredible experience! I really appreciate the opportunity to put my love of art towards actually benefiting people in the community. I also just absolutely loved getting to meet all the insanely talented and wonderful artists who live in the Midcoast! My bowl is a very important painting to me because it combines everything I worked towards in my art class over the previous year of school. I spent a long and frustrating period trying to work out the best way to merge realism and fantasy in my paintings. I finally figured out a way to do that that works best for me, and that was through a large series of bubble paintings that I did. A friend recommended that I paint bubbles again, so this painting is a testament to those first bubbles, and the hummingbird is the focus because I truly love hummingbirds and they remind me of peaceful and joyful times spent outside in the summer. Above all I thought that the combination of a hummingbird and bubbles might be playful enough to bring joy to people. BIO: I am a nature lover, painter, ceramicist, and older sister. I live on music, and have to have something playing all the time, especially when I paint. I love to read, and have a pretty strong imagination, which I enjoy bringing into my art!
