As a SCUBA-diving artist and writer, I love exploring the underwater world. I created this piece shortly after a trip to the Cayman Islands where I encountered my favorite creatures while diving. Hovering weightless underwater, I watched a sea turtle snack on sponges nestled in the coral reef. We kept on eye on each other as he enjoyed the colorful buffet until he decided he was done. With graceful flippers, clouds of white sand arose like a magic trick, masking his departure until he emerged in the open blue waters. As he headed for the surface, I rotated onto my back watching his silhouette ascend into the sunlight. After experiencing these silhouette views of Great Whites and Whale Sharks as well, I imagined they could all live together in the same painting in a circle of light and hope.
