Description
'Dewey - the Neighbourhood Troll' is a reproduction of one of Zena's paintings. The image size is 12 1/2" x 8" and is printed on quality paper 14 1/2" x 10". Unframed. Signed by Zena Bernstein. Zena Bernstein was an extraordinary artist and illustrator whose work focused on the varied beauty of the natural world. Working primarily with watercolors and acrylics, Zena drew and painted the wildflowers, perennials, animals, insects, fairies, elves, wizards and trolls in her woodland garden on Horse Thief Bay in the Thousand Islands, Canada. She passed away on July 6, 2024. Her art was her passion and she considered it a labor of love. Zena felt strongly that her drawings, paintings and stories could promote recognition and protection of the delicate flora and fauna of Horse Thief Bay and beyond. Zena’s technique was to use a very dry brush to place layer upon layer of dots in a very slow process. She painted each dot individually, beginning with the lightest color and slowly building up layers, often applying as many as six. Zena’s artwork has been exhibited in numerous one-woman and group shows in New York City, Syracuse, Baltimore, Bermuda, Toronto, Kingston, and elsewhere. She won many awards and honors for her paintings and drawings, which are widely collected. The Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston would like to acknowledge Ian McKhann as a multiple item donor.
