Description
Urban Adventure Squad/Urban Learning and Teaching Center (UAS, www.urbanadventuresquad.org) is a D.C.-based 501(c)(3) non-profit education organization. We support K-8 schools and school communities with neighborhood-based, hands-on learning programs that focus on the outdoors. We offer full-day programs during out-of-school time, like on professional development days and federal holidays, as well as during school breaks. Squad members explore D.C.'s history, geography, architecture, and culture with guest educators and go behind the scenes at local businesses and organizations to see how things work. Through their neighborhood field trips, our students have learned how radio shows are produced, how to use binoculars and identify local birds, how to calculate the age of a tree, how to harvest rainwater, how to keep bees, and much, much more. Guest educators and program educators called Squad leaders teach Squad members about life skills, like safety and survival skills in the woods and staying calm in stressful situations, and expose them to different art forms, like composing and recording music, choreographing stage combat, writing poetry, and cartooning. Come join the outdoor learning fun! Redeemable for a 2024-25 school-year program or as a credit toward UAS Summer 2025 programs, pending available space.
