Description

This beautifully handcrafted charango is a traditional Andean string instrument originating from the highland regions of Bolivia, Peru, and neighboring countries. Known for its bright, lively tone and unique tuning, the charango is typically tuned to G–C–E–A–E across its five string pairs, forming an AM7 chord. Most string pairs are tuned in unison, with the middle pair tuned an octave apart—creating the distinctive re-entrant tuning where the lowest pitch sits in the center. This particular instrument was made by luthier José Homero Uyaguari, a member of the well-known Uyaguari family of guitar makers in Azuay Province near Cuenca, Ecuador. It was purchased directly from the family’s home workshop, adding to its authenticity and cultural significance. Details: Traditional 10-string (5-course) Andean charango Handcrafted by José Homero Uyaguari Origin: Azuay Province, Ecuador Authentic artisan piece purchased at the maker’s workshop Condition & Notes: This is a beautiful and well-crafted instrument, ideal for students, collectors, or anyone who appreciates traditional instruments. While not at a concert performance level, it is perfect for learning, display, or casual playing, and admired for its craftsmanship and cultural heritage. A unique and meaningful addition to any musical or cultural collection.
