HANDMADE "CIGFIDDLE" BY BARATTO GUITARS FOR THE VBAS AUCTION FOR ANIMALS. Cigfiddle is a solid poplar wood frame with box joints. 1/8” birch ply top and back. Handmade wood bridge, bone nut, and deluxe Grover tuners. A glued-in mahogany neck with walnut fretboard completes this simple yet very effective instrument. Each is still handmade by Matty Barrato himself. You can bring it anywhere. It travels well and gets compliments due to its pleasant tone. It’s a conduit to the musical universe. 26" L x 9" W Cigfiddle is tuned: Lo-Hi_ D. A. D. F#. .036. .026. .016. .013. respectively. Some 350 Cigfiddles were made from cigar boxes between 1994-2010. With years of experience and success, Matty made the decision to re-invent the Cigfiddle, into a better sounding, better playing, and more robust instrument. He simplified the process for more consistency while keeping the Cigfiddle theme. Artisan Matty Baratto has been making handmade guitars for several decades for famous clients all over the world. Matty started making his “Cigfiddles” in 1994 in a closet on the roof at 1936 N Whitley Ave. The “standard” Cigfiddle, is a Tenor Guitar with a 19” scale. Included were versions of: Cavaquinho, Ukulele, 8 strings, Double Necks, and Resonators made from paint can lids. Amps were made from wine boxes and basses from wine crates, etc… Many were for fun, trade, or were merely experimental, but each was a valuable lesson one way or another. They ended up in the hands of many famous musicians, actors, and producers. Some were given as gifts. The Cigfiddle was featured at the Grammy Museum, in the Los Angeles Times and on a Grammy Award winning song played by a Beatles on SNL. Recordings and live performances have made it a bonafide instrument and its namesake, Cigfiddle, is proprietary to Matty Baratto Guitars.
