Description
A unique and monolithic new sculptural redwood vessel (70” x 24”) by artist Ido Yoshimoto - our first visiting artist (way back in 2014!). This piece debuts at our special event on November 7th at Four One Nine in San Francisco. Ido Yoshimoto began his professional career as an arborist, which instilled in him an appreciation for the properties and dynamics of trees and laid the foundation for his artistic practice. Today, his work is rooted in the land and forests of West Marin California, as he creates both sculptural and functional art forms from large pieces of Californian trees, exploring each piece based on what exists within the tree. The characteristics and configurations of rings, scars, and grain all slowly reveal a history and inspiration as he peels back the layers to highlight the nature of the material. Ido’s concepts and directions are an ever-evolving response to what he discovers in each piece of wood.
