Description
This one-on-one 2 1/2 hour workshop will provide an introduction to the wood lathe, focusing on essential techniques and safety practices for beginners. The participant will learn about the various components of the wood lathe, including the bed, tailstock, and tool rest. The session will cover how to properly set up the lathe, select appropriate wood, and understand the tools required for turning. Emphasis will be placed on hands-on experience, allowing the participant to practice basic turning techniques and create a simple project such as a bowl. By the end of the workshop, participants will have a foundational understanding of wood lathe operation and the confidence to explore further in the world of woodturning. Unlock your creativity and discover the art of working with wood on a lathe! For this workshop you must be at least 18 years of age and be able to stand and use your arms/hands for the majority of the instructional time. You will be exposed to wood shavings and dust so a face shield and dusk mask are required (I can provide or you may bring your own). Wear work clothes and secure long hair so you will be ready to work on the lathe. The class is held in Affton in my basement workshop. I'm an experienced lathe user. The workshop will be scheduled at a mutually convenient time.
