João Fonte Santa é um dos artistas mais representativos da sua geração. O seu trabalho aborda incessante multiplicação de instâncias produtoras de imagens, as modalidades da sua circulação na cultura de massas e a legibilidade ideológica desses processos de criação e difusão. No seu trabalho, Fonte Santa apropria-se habitualmente de imagens — da banda desenhada aos jornais, da pintura à fotografia, da iconografia popular ao cinema — a partir das quais interroga sentidos, filiações, sensibilidades e identidades. Expõe regularmente desde meados dos anos 90.

João Fonte Santa is one of the most representative artists of his generation. His work explores the incessant multiplication of image-producing instances, the ways in which these images circulate within mass culture, and the ideological legibility of these processes of creation and dissemination. In his practice, Fonte Santa frequently appropriates images — from comic books to newspapers, from painting to photography, from popular iconography to cinema — using them to question meanings, affiliations, sensibilities, and identities. He has been exhibiting regularly since the mid-1990s.
