Description
Oil painting on canvas by Michael Nibley (bio below). 24x30
Michael Nibley was born in Provo, Utah and graduated from Bingham Young University
with a Masters in English Language and Literature. He worked in education, developing
computer programs to teach reading, history, and science to children then transitioned
to on-line training programs, working for a variety of Institutions and Government
agencies including Sesame Street, the Smithsonian, National Geographic, the Coast
Guard, the Veterans Administration, and Customs and Border Protection.
Mike moved to New York in the 80s and then settled in DC in the 90s where he lived
until his death in 2023. Mike had painted while in high school and college but stopped
while building his career. He returned to painting in his late 40s, taking classes at
several DC art studios and spending the bulk of his free time painting. He had a show of
his work at a Georgetown gallery and submitted his work to quite a few art competitions.
Mike had many creative talents. In addition to painting and drawing, he wrote
screenplays, stage plays, novels, poetry, songs, and even some cartoons. He was
extremely intelligent with a wide variety of interests and a photographic memory. These
traits helped him earn a spot on Jeopardy, where he was a three-day champion.
