Title: Ruby-throated Hummingbird Pair Materials: oil painting on hand carved wood donated by residents of the Maine State Correctional Facility’s woodworking program Statement: Every spring hummingbirds—weighing less than a penny with wings beating 50 times a second—migrate hundreds of miles to local flowers and feeders. Taking a moment to observe them with an open heart can inspire wonder in all ages, brighten our lives, and even console us when challenges weigh us down. My artwork attempts to shed light on the deep connection between our lives and the rest of the natural world. This is my 3rd year with Artfeeds and I greatly appreciate this chance to contribute to AOI's mission. I’m grateful for the opportunity to contribute to AIO in this way, we creatives sometimes struggle with the purposefulness of our work. With this annual ArtFeeds fundraiser the answer is reassuringly evident. All my work carries an underlying wish to advocate for the value of nature and wildlife in our lives.
