About the Artist:
Livvy Eden is a photographic artist and curator based in Wiltshire, UK.Her books and photographs mark an intuitive reflection of the places she inhabits and her understanding of 'home'. As she works through land and water, she looks inward, considering how places have continued to shape her and how their influence has intertwined with her approaches to image-making. Eden threads past and present, informing a search for truth, peace and belonging.
Working with alternative analogue techniques has introduced a physical relationship with her surrounding environments, bringing herself into contact with natural materials and the land. Eden pushes sustainable methods within her practice, often using alternative solutions in the darkroom and natural materials within her printmaking and bookmaking.
About the work:
“I worked on my ‘Veils’ project back in Winter/Spring 2023. Most photographs were taken in and around Falmouth, as well as Feock, Kennel Vale and Penryn. Part of my darkroom process involved soaking the prints in seawater and air-drying them to form thin coats of salt on their surfaces. I also dipped shells and seaweed that I collected. I formed delicate photographic sculptures, sealed and protected in salt. They became representative of the sites I photographed and I enjoyed making my experiences of escape and grounding more permanent. These donated prints are the scans of my salt-dipped darkroom experiments.” - Livvy Eden
