Luminous, Patrick Guyton

Luminous 2016 36" x 12" Mixed media on aluminum with sized silver leaf, veined by hand. Hand-signed in pigment lower center by the artist. A unique work. Guyton’s preferred method of creating a painting combines the finesse of Japanese metal leafing from the 14th-century Kamakura period (1185-1333) with the prized Flemish glazing techniques of the 17th century. Guyton merges these traditions to forge a fresh, 21st-century style he aptly calls “Gilded Modernism®.” Embracing both ancient and modern artistic practices, he carefully crafts his works, layer by delicate layer, building each piece into something strikingly original.
