Mac Adams, "The Moth" 11 x 14 inches Black and white digital print Artist Statement: A significant aspect of Adams’ practice lies in public art. He has realized more than twenty permanent installations internationally, including the Korean War Memorial in Battery Park (New York), Ophiuchus at Montclair State University, The Moth at Iowa State University, and Meditation at the University of Strasbourg, France Artist Bio: Mac Adams is a Welsh-born, U.S.-based artist whose work explores the relationship between light, shadow, and absence. Over a career spanning more than five decades, Adams has developed a distinctive visual language rooted in the subtle power of implication. Rather than relying on overt spectacle, his work draws attention to what is partially seen, suggested, or missing—inviting viewers to interpret rather than consume. His practice spans sculpture, photography, and installation, united by a sustained inquiry into perception and ambiguity. Shadows, traces, and cast forms serve not merely as formal elements but as conceptual instruments—ways of thinking about memory, loss, and the fragile boundaries between presence and disappearance. Adams’ work is represented in the permanent collections of more than fifty major institutions worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art (New York), Centre Pompidou (Paris), the Getty Museum (Los Angeles), and MUDAM Luxembourg, among others. He has received major awards from the Pollock-Krasner Foundation, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the DAAD (Berlin), and is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at SUNY Old Westbury.
