Description
Mushrooms make a wonderful complement to freshly harvested herbs and vegetables from your garden and are not any more difficult to grow. Come experience first-hand how they are grown at Blue Owl Hollow Forest Farm, sellers of prime log-grown mushrooms at local farmers markets since 2009. After a tour of the mushroom yard, you will learn hands-on basic log inoculation techniques suitable for home production of several culinary mushrooms, such as shiitake, oyster, and lion's mane. Given the right situation and basic maintenance these logs can thrive for years in your yard, shade garden, or woodlot. Log harvesting, spawn and tool sourcing, site selection, care of inoculated logs, and various other mushroom cultivation resources will also be discussed. One inoculated log plus tried and true mushroom recipes included! The Blue Owl mushroom experience lasts a minimum of 4 hours and can accommodate up to 5 people; active participation is suitable for 12 yrs and up, younger children must be supervised. Early spring is the best time for this activity, so it must be scheduled to occur between the first week in March and the end of April, date and time is negotiable.
