Description

The Oakland Museum of California (OMCA) is an interdisciplinary museum dedicated to the art, history, and natural science of California, located adjacent to Oak Street, 10th Street, and 11th Street in Oakland, California. The museum contains more than 1.8 million objects dedicated to "telling the extraordinary story of California."

The OMCA was founded in 1969 as merger of three smaller area museums – the Oakland Public Museum, Oakland Art Gallery, and the Snow Museum of Natural History. The museum's founding credo positioned itself as a “people’s museum,” wherein it was dedicated to representing the diverse communities of Oakland. This rhetoric was by and large influenced by the social and political environment of the late 1960's civil rights movements.

The museum building is an important example of mid-century modernism and the integration of indoor and outdoor spaces.

The museum owns more than 70,000 examples of California art and design, created from the mid-1800s to the present. And as well, the museum holds a notable collection of paintings and decorative objects associated with the American Craftsman movement.

Additional Information

Our mission is to improve the lives of all domestic and out in the wild animals in our county!

Advocates of Contra Costa County is a group that urgently formed in 2024 in response to the rising numbers of animals placed on euthanasia lists in Contra Costa County and the policies that don't go far enough to provide resources for the shelters or rescues working hard to keep our furry friends free from harm. AACCC serves as a hub to help rescue groups and volunteers, do outreach in the community as well as advocacy work educating the community and elected officials of the important needs of our county animals. We’re optimistic that all these efforts are making a huge impact on the animals but it takes time, perseverance, and of course, funding.

This auction and fundraiser on February 23rd 1 - 4:30 in the Richmond Hills, are raising funds to support the work of Stitch in Time Animal Rescue (STAR), a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to providing medical intervention to injured or sick animals and saving them from neglect, abuse, preventable suffering, and unjustified euthanasia. Since its founding in 2018, STAR has provided rigorous evaluation, medical care, fostering, and adoption, STAR does everything within its power to ensure that these animals receive the compassion and futures they deserve.

Since its founding in 2018, STAR has rescued and rehabilitated hundreds of animals, providing second chances and ongoing care for animals who would otherwise face a life of suffering and early death from injuries, illness or euthanasia at institutions that could not treat or house them. Len Welsh and the devoted board members of STAR are passionate animal advocates and have spearheaded efforts to address overcrowded shelters, rescue at-risk medically compromised animals, and find them loving homes.

The auction is online until 8 am on February 23rd, and then goes to in person at our fundraiser.
