Description

DESCRIPTION: The icon is mounted on a wooden board (16” x 20”). The intricate background is etched in silver leaf with silver metal strands and crystals. A raised, scrolled, gold-leaf border studded with gems frames the icon. The gold and silver gilding on the icon is done by hand and is embellished with pearls, gems, crystals, and metal pieces. The inscription plaques, Panagia’s crown, and the photostefana (halos) are made of hand-cut wood and secured to the icon giving the work a 3-dimensional appearance. Panagia is bordered with pearls.

BACKGROUND: A replica of Hawaii’s miraculous, myrrh-streaming Iveron Icon of the Mother of God, whose reproduction rights were given by its caretaker, Fr. Nectarios to the Nativity of the Theotokos Monastery. Fr. Nectarios’ icon is a mounted print made at the Sofrino Church Factory, near Moscow and began streaming myrrh in 2007. The icon of Panagia Iveron is commemorated on February 12th. https://www.orthodoxhawaii.org/icons
