Description
Mercer County, NJ. 10x14". It's appropriate that this farmstead and its striking stone barn are located in Mercer County, which is named for Brigadier General Hugh Mercer, a surgeon who not only died in the Battle of Princeton in 1777 and served with George Washington in the French and Indian War but also fought with the Jacobites at the Battle of Culloden in Scotland in 1746. Barn, built in the 1830s, features the tale of Commodore John Stockton and his effort to rescue soldiers surrounded in the Mexican War in California. This painting can be seen at the Hocking County Historical Society, Logan, Ohio. Call 740 385-6026 (office number) or 740 603-1876 with questions.
