Mike Carroll is a well known and established artist from the island of Hawaii. He is an acclaimed oil painter and former medical illustrator who spent two decades capturing the landscapes and daily life of Lānaʻi, Background and Career Early Career: Originally from Chicago, Mike worked as a professional illustrator for Fortune 500 companies and national magazines for 20 years. He earned a Master's degree in Medical Illustration from The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine. Move to Lānaʻi: After visiting Lānaʻi in 1999, Mike and his wife Kathy permanently relocated to the island in 2001, initially selling paintings outdoors in Lahaina. The Mike Carroll Gallery: They opened their eponymous gallery in Lānaʻi City, which served as a staple of the island's art community for 23 years before closing in late 2025 as the couple entered their "freedom season". Artistic Accolades Plein Air Recognition: He was invited to every annual Maui Plein Air Painting Invitational since its inception in 2006 and became a founding member of "The Islanders" painting group. State Honors: He is a Signature Member of the Plein Air Painters of Hawaii and was elected to the Board of Directors of the Hawaii State Art Museum in 2010.
