Recovery Art Piece by Janice Richardson

Name of artwork:  Recovery PROCESS: The idea behind drawing everyday came about during an AA meeting before my Heavenly Father.  Early in my sobriety I was at the Nooner making excuses for why I could not complete some project I was working, on and after the meeting one of my fellow alcoholics who apparently had had enough have my complaining or expressions of fear, or whatever……. he was tiered of it.  He proceeded to tell me I was full of BULLSHIT!!  He asked me when I had to be at work which my response was 3p or something I don’t remember it has been some time ago.  He said, “Go home and draw something, take a picture and send it to me."  I did out of flat out embarrassment. He returned my text stating “CONGRATULATIONS YOU ARE AN ARTIST FOR TODAY.” At the time I went to what was KINKO’S in Broadripple and had them cut 1.75 x 1.75 squares so I could have them on me at all times.You can buy them now—Who knew!  I use all different sizes now, and the only thing is to be creative.  I use found objects, trash, collage elements from my own work, magazines….anything! The goal is to have 365 days of expression.  Sometimes the drawings are words or ideas for bigger pieces I do not put any limitations on it; I have enough to worry about. I am in the process of having a website made, it’s all fluid.
