Description

This unique offering will bring you and your child together in rhythm and cadence to bond through music. These djembes were handmade by local artisan and TLC parent Daniel Johnson who has included a group drum lesson to demonstrate how you can play these beautiful instruments together. Djembes are a popular West African goblet-shaped hand drum, carved from wood and covered with animal skin, played to produce high-volume, resonant sounds for music and community gatherings. It is played with bare hands, producing three main sounds—bass, tone, and slap—and is known for its versatility and ease of learning. The drum heads are walnut-dyed leather that Daniel helped TLC students to create and string onto the drums. Our Apprentice students then worked together to decorate the bodies of the drums with their original, wood-burned designs.
