Description
Cardboard, acrylic, tree branches and copper wire on panel, 36 x 18 in. My work is informed by current issues that either connect us or affect us all as a society. Were constantly reacting or adapting to ever changing events and circumstances. I tend to focus on a particular issue of importance to me, I study it, and try to understand it. As I process this information, I begin to transform concepts into form, color and texture. Even though in the past Ive used materials ranging from canvas and paper to leather and wood, my most recent work uses materials that are ubiquitous and not only readily available, but those that tend to be discarded. During the COVID-19 period of isolation and self-distancing I began collecting cardboard boxes from my surroundings. Having learned of the limited capabilities of companies recycling cardboard, I decided to make these collected boxes the basis of my work. The resulting art addresses issues of isolation, hope, introspection and adaptability, and is a testament of the times in which we live.
