Description

-Framed 5"x7" Print

Sappho is featured in the book Literary Witches: A Celebration of Magical Women Writers, which reimagines famous female writers as literary witches. In this context, Sappho is celebrated for her powerful, personal lyric poetry, which explores themes of love and emotion, and her work is seen as a source of strength and inspiration.

Katy Horan is an illustrator and interdisciplinary artist living and working in Austin, Texas. Her paintings, drawings, sculptures, and video work investigate female archetypes and experiences. Pulling from a spectrum of influences, including folklore, history, film, and her own life, she creates ambiguous narratives that exist in the space between beauty and darkness, familiarity and strangeness. As an illustrator, she is committed to projects that celebrate and uncover forgotten or overlooked female histories and stories.

More about the book: Literary Witches reimagines visionary writers as witches: both are figures of formidable creativity, empowerment, and general badassery. Through a series of thirty lyrical portraits, Taisia Kitaiskaia and Katy Horan honor the witchy qualities of well-known and obscure authors alike, including Virginia Woolf, Mira Bai, Toni Morrison, Emily Dickinson, Octavia E. Butler, Sandra Cisneros, and many more.

Perfect for both book lovers and coven members, Literary Witches is a treasure trove of creative and courageous women who aren’t afraid to be alone in the woods of their imagination. Kitaiskaia and Horan conjure evocative, highly stylized depictions of history’s most beloved female authors, introduce enchanting new writers, and invite you to rediscover the magic of literature.
