Description

Montgomery County, MD. 11x14". This beautiful barn was built with Seneca red sandstone, also known as redstone. An unknown stonemason built the barn sometime between the 1790s and the early 1800s, using the same red stone that was used to build the Smithsonian's "Castle" in the 1850s. It was listed on the National Register in 1978 in the Seneca Historic District, which features 3,850 acres of federal, state, and county parkland and farmland, featuring 15 historic buildings, including smokehouses, springhouses, corn cribs, tobacco barns, and slave quarters. This painting can be seen at the Oregon-Jerusalem Historical Society, located near Toledo, Oh. Call with questions 419 902-5149
