LIVE AUCTION ITEM - PREVIEW ONLY This Very Precious Yuan Dynasty box (1279-1368 AD) was a gift from H.H. Jigdal Dagchen Sakya Dorje Chang to the donor. The translation reads, "Traditionally said to be a bamboo hat gifted by Kublai Khan, founder of the Yuan Dynasty, to Phagpa (Phags-pa)."
Chogyal Phagpa Rinpoche, one the Five Sakya Founders, was the nephew of Sakya Pandita. Sakya Pandita was instrumental in establishing a relationship between the Sakya School and the Mongol rulers. Chogyal Phagpa Rinpoche was the first Imperial Preceptor of the Yuan Dynasty under Kublai Khan.
This original hand painted Mongolian box features the Eight Auspicious Symbols: Parasol, Golden Fish, Treasure Vase, Lotus, Conch Shell, Endless Knot, Victory Banner, and Dharma Wheel. This blessed box would be a beautiful addition to your private collection or shrine. Note: the box is about 3" tall and roughly 12" in diameter.
