Description
Stewartia pseudocamellia is a small to medium-sized deciduous tree known for its camellia-like white flowers, multicolored exfoliating bark, and brilliant fall foliage. Also called Japanese Stewartia or natsu-tsubaki, it is a slow-growing, deciduous tree native to the mountains of Japan and Korea. It typically reaches 20–40 feet in height with a pyramidal to oval shape The tree often has low branching, contributing to an elegant, multi-stemmed form. Its bark is exfoliating, peeling in strips or plates of gray, orange, and reddish-brown, providing winter interest.
