Description
90 x 110 cm, Oil on Canvas. In this painting, I borrow the still life tradition but let it slip into the surreal. The table is set in order, but the objects are symbolic. A broken statue recalls the past, while a cactus insists on living now, but there is a resemblance of shape. The calla lily bends inside the glass, longing toward the open sea, but it has no water. Fruits and wine suggest present pleasure, but beside them lies a seashell’s spiral of eternity. Artist Bio: Born in 1962 in Gătaia, Romania, Gyuri Lohmüller is a self-taught surrealist painter who has dedicated over 35 years to his craft. His journey began after the Romanian Revolution, when he lost his job and decided to pursue painting full-time, drawing from his early talent in graphic arts. His work, deeply shaped by personal hardships and life’s challenges, invites viewers to find their own reflections within it. Known for creating imaginative, emotionally rich oil paintings, Gyuri draws influence from Hieronymus Bosch and modern surrealists. His art has been exhibited across Europe, including France, Austria, and Hungary, and continues to resonate for its honesty, complexity, and hidden meanings. Gyuri lives and paints alongside his wife, Adina Lohmüller, a fellow artist and exclusive member of the Elysian Art Collection.
Additional Information
The International Art Project Foundation (IAP) is redefining how art can serve humanity. While most museums keep over 90% of their collections hidden in storage, IAP does the opposite—every donated artwork is activated, displayed, and sold to fund measurable humanitarian and community projects. Each piece becomes a catalyst for change, supporting clean water, education, women’s empowerment, animal welfare, environmental resilience, and local nonprofit initiatives. Our impact model creates radical transparency: each artwork is directly connected to the specific project it funds, allowing donors, artists, and buyers to see the tangible results of their contributions. Recent Projects Include: • Maradi Water Project (Niger): delivering 40,000 liters of clean water daily to 3,000 people. • EmpowerHer Project: supporting 75 women in Niger to launch small businesses and achieve financial independence. • School Supplies Initiative: providing textbooks and learning tools for more than 370 students in Maradi. This December, IAP will be showcased at the WEAM Museum in Miami during Art Basel, the world’s premier international art fair. Our participation represents a defining moment—placing IAP on the global stage to demonstrate that art can do far more than decorate walls: it can change the world. Mission Statement The International Art Project transforms donated fine art into a catalyst for positive change. Every piece we receive is offered for sale, and the proceeds fund projects that strengthen communities locally and globally—supporting access to essentials, expanding opportunity, and fostering dignity. In the process, we honor the artists, donors, and stories behind each work, ensuring that creativity continues to inspire impact far beyond the canvas. Vision Statement At IAP, we envision a world where art is never hidden away but activated as a force for lasting change—empowering creativity, honoring legacy, and transforming every donation into stronger communities and brighter futures. Why It Matters | Impact and Diversity of Causes IAP bridges sectors—art, philanthropy, and community development—creating scalable, replicable impact: • Global Impact: Water systems, schools, and women’s economic empowerment in Niger and other regions. • Local Impact: Playgrounds, educational resources, and nonprofit collaborations throughout Indiana. • Cultural Impact: A new economic and social model for art that unites creativity and compassion. Every project begins with a single donated piece of art and ends with lives transformed. Because the true value of art isn’t what it’s worth — it’s what it can do.
