Description
This nearly 3-foot artwork, titled Lady and the Tiger, is inspired by Shinto folklore and the legendary imagery of a “lady with a harp and a tiger.” In Japanese tradition, this story is often associated with Tora of Ōiso and the legend of the Torakoishi (Tiger Stone).
Tora, a famed courtesan, is said to have been deeply connected to a magical harp following the death of her lover. In some interpretations of the legend, a protective “tiger stone” symbolizes her enduring love and spiritual guardianship of his memory.
Measuring 3' x 2', this piece reflects themes of love, loss, protection, and myth—blending folklore and symbolism into a powerful visual narrative.
