Description

BRISTOL COUNTY, RI. 11x14".  Colonel Samuel Pomeroy Colt, a wealthy industrialist in Bristol, built this grandiose stone barn in 1917. Although he only briefly knew his uncle, he was a nephew of Samuel Colt, the inventor of the famous revolver, patented in 1836, whose slogan was, "God created men. Colonel Colt made them equal." S.P. Colt's other lineage wasn't as respectable. Early look into the slave-trading days of Rhode Island.  This painting is at the Summit County Historical Society in Akron, Ohio.
