Description

A Gift Certificate for $100 to see a performance(s) at the City Opera House! City Opera House is a quiet gem of Traverse City that entertains, educates, and enriches the lives of our community as well as visitors to the area. Built in 1892, she was added to National Register of Historic Places in 1972. The magnificent Grand Old Lady is host to TWO world-class Performing Arts series featuring professional national-touring artists, multiple arts education programs for learners ages 8-18, and hosts an active schedule of public and private community events year round. Their Platinum Season (sponsored by MSU FCU) offers a curated lineup of top-tier performances across music, family entertainment, comedy, and more while their Ovation Series presents high-profile, in-demand artists and events as opportunities arise, sometimes on short notice. The 680-seat theater’s functional design provides the flexibility to clear the main floor of seating for large gatherings. Unparalleled Victorian charm, superior acoustic quality, and an accessible location all add up to a unique public environment in downtown Traverse City. The primary goal of Arts Education at City Opera is to connect learners of all ages to the performing arts by offering a range of programs suited to a variety of learner needs. In so doing, it is our hope that participants of every age will find for themselves that participation in the arts enriches, enhances and broadens one's life. Programs are frequently presented in close collaboration with participating arts organizations, including the Wharton Center for Performing Arts and other area arts organizations, along with local educators to ensure they meet the needs of the community. The organization brings in Broadway professionals to teach workshops for students interested in the professional performing arts (Take it From the Top), encourages regional high school students to submit one-act scripts to a juried competition with the winner seeing their script come to life on stage (Page2Stage), hosts "artists in residence", offers Seats 4 Kids, and much, much more.
