Description
3 - 5 1/2" square original oil works on canvas. The artist, Joan R. Brownstein (August 27, 1948 - October 22, 2020) was born to Isadore and Harriett (Slome) Brownstein. The younger of two daughter, Joan grew up in Greenfield MA and Keene NH. Harriett's experiences as a refugee from Poland spurred Joan's long-term support for charity and philanthropic work. A graduate of Dana Hall School, Joan received her undergraduate in Fine Art and Architecture from Cornell University and her MFA at Hunter College. Joan's early paintings involved pouring layers of paint on canvas, evoking themes of landscapes. Joan would later teach art at Harvard and write extensively about art. Later in life, as Parkinson's disease impacted her dexterity and ability to paint, Joan changed her artistic techniques and began focusing on photography and paintings using cut and layered paper and colored pencil.
