Description
“Have Tiles, Will Travel!” Discover the fun and strategy of American Mah Jongg in this exclusive class led by Shelby Rhyne—tennis advocate, educator, and lifelong community connector. Shelby’s love of both tennis and teaching shine through in everything she does. As the Rockingham County Tennis Advocate, Host of “Love, Forty & Tennis,” and Vice President of the Rockingham County Community Foundation, she knows how games—whether on the court or at the table—bring people together. The winning bidder will enjoy one private Mah Jongg class for 8–12 players, designed around your group’s experience level and interests. Choose from: Introduction to Mah Jongg (Beginner Class) – Meet the tiles, decode the 2025 NMJL Card, and play your first game. Strategy Session (Intermediate) – Learn how to choose winning hands, navigate the Charleston, and when to pivot. Tournament Prep (Advanced) – Develop fast, confident decision-making, defensive strategy, and winning tactics. Shelby provides tiles and take-home handouts. Each participant will need a 2025 NMJL Card ($15) prior to class. 🌸 Optional Multi-Day Beginner Series For new players eager to keep learning, Shelby offers an expanded three- to four-class experience—she donates the first session, and additional classes may be added at $25 per player per class. A weekend intensive (Friday evening through Sunday) can also be arranged. 🏡 Travel & Lodging: If travel is required, Shelby requests local housing be provided. Shelby is a proud member of the Mahj Life Instructor Guild (2025) and brings nearly 20 years of experience teaching players of all ages how to find community through play—both on the tennis court and around the Mah Jongg table.
