Description
Cottage Zinnias Painting
Framed oil on Canvas
Painting size = 20" x 26"
This lovely painting has been donated by the estate of Richard Van Duzer. Dick was known in horticultural circles as a dynamic speaker, he traveled extensively lecturing on floral design. Working in Japan, he developed an appreciation for the aesthetic of shibui, the Japanese ideal of simple, subtle, and understated beauty, which profoundly influenced his philosophy and work. In 1968, he and his partner, Ted Garrison, founded The Valley Florist in Frenchtown, N.J. Their Philadelphia Flower Show installations, distinguished by hand-painted background murals, won six best of show awards for the North American Rock Garden Society. Dick devoted enormous energy to his gardens in Pipersville and generously welcomed garden clubs, tours and horticulturists to enjoy and share their knowledge of plants and gardens. Inspired by his gardens and the rural subjects of Bucks County, he was a prolific artist. His landscapes and still life paintings, done in the impressionist style, captured nuances of light and color.
