'Waves of Light - River of the Lenape' Kazzrie Jaxen

Pianist/Vocalist/Composer Kazzrie Jaxen has been a vital part of the NYC improvising music scene for many years. During the 1980's and 90's her love of music led her into an exploration of abstract art. Her pastels were shown and sold in several solo and group shows in NYC and Sullivan County, and also appeared on album covers and in a book entitled "Love's Way" by Mark Gabriele. In 1994, she left NYC and moved to upstate NY to heal from Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Unable to play the piano or listen to music for several years, she began walking by the Delaware River everyday, photographing water, sky, trees, plants, flowers. She took thousands of photos, gradually realizing that she was being invited to improvise with Nature, and that the River had become her primary physician and teacher. This was pre-digital photography. She would drop the rolls of film off at Peck's supermarket, and prints would come back a couple of days later. The energy in these photos continued to work their magic, healing and instructing her, and eventually she began sharing them. This Riverfest poster is a visual and musical homage to the River. The images are collaged from photos taken during Kazzrie's early walks by the River. The CD ("Lenapewiattuck, River of the Lenape") is a series of improvisational duets with guitarist Bud Tristano, recorded at Big Twig studio from 2007-2013 by Dana Duke.
