Description
Columbia County, NY. 11x14". Following the death of Mother Ann Lee in 1784, who brought the Shakers protestant faith to the colonies 10 years earlier, Father James Whittaker became the head of the organization in America. He began construction of this site in 1785, which later evolved into the center of Shaker ideology in the United States. In 1965 the Mount Lebanon site was named a National Historic Landmark, which includes its massive stone barn. Though the roof is missing, plans are in the works to restore it. This painting can be seen at the Shalersville Historical Society, located in Shalersville, Oh. Call with questions 740 389-0598
