Description

This lamp was handmade by Matt Marasch. The lamp was wood fired in a kiln for 3 days and nights requiring shifts to put wood in it every 3-5 minutes until it reached a temperature of over 2300 degrees F. The lamp base has no glaze at all on it. All that was done was a splash of a different colored clay body was poured on it (can be seen on the clamshell side). Clamshells were used to suspend the base on its side on a crown type object. The clamshells disintegrated leaving the marks on one side. The green side was the top side in the kiln. The color comes from the gathering of ash that melted on it during the process. You can see the ash melted and dripped on to the clamshell side. This is a one-of-a-kind lamp that shows the beauty of what the mixture of earth, wind, fire, water, and potter can do with a little help from God. Pictures are available of the pot before, after and during the firing of the kiln. Both sides are gorgeous and will leave the owner with a tough choice of which side to display.
