About Friends of the Lebanon Public Library
Friends of the Lebanon Library was established in 1953 by members of local civic and fraternal groups to stimulate interest in the facilities available at the Lebanon City Library after it moved to the Lebanon Central Hospital building on Second Street. Friends of the Lebanon Public Library became a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 1990.
The Friends raise funds for the Library through the sale of donated books and bookish merchandise and an annual silent auction. We also solicit donations from the community and apply for grants. In 2024 we added an annual author fair to showcase the literary talent of Oregon writers.
The Friends primarily give back to the Library by sponsoring reading and arts programs for children and young adults. The annual Summer Reading Program is the most impactful program currently sponsored by the Friends. The program encourages and rewards children and adults to read during the summer months when school is not in session.
We also sponsor spring break programs, tween and teen programs, and Storytime crafts and activities. The Friends fund the purchase of cultural passes, children’s board books, replacement items for kits, and special projects for the Library.
The Friends are currently fundraising to build a dedicated children's room onto the Lebanon Public Library. This long-term project will provide the Library with much-needed space to host their popular children’s programs, including Storytime, arts and crafts, STEM activities, tween and teen programs, and more. We have contributed over $40,000 toward this project to date. Our current goal is to present the library with a check for $75,000 on our 75th anniversary in March 2028.
