Joshua FFA LEadership Grant, JHS, Mr. Greg Clark
The Joshua FFA Organization has a history of getting as many students involved as possible in the various disciplines offered through our organization in order to give students an opportunity to be successful, develop leadership qualities, and to gain the knowledge, skill, and even scholarship funds to pursue a degree or career in agriculture upon graduation. The agricultural education pathway that we offer at our campus focuses on a three-part model in order to ensure that every student in our department receives a well-rounded agricultural education. Those three parts are comprised of the following; 1. Classroom instruction, 2. Teaching students about the FFA Organization, and 3. Offering students the opportunity of participating in SAE’s (Supervised Agricultural Experiences). Two of the SAE’s that students have become extremely successful at are the Leadership Development Events (LDE’s) and the Career Development Events (CDE’s). During the 2023-2024 school year, the Joshua FFA Organization was fortunate enough to have six teachers coach 19 LDE & CDE teams that competed throughout the year which included over 80 students. When hauling this many students around the state of Texas, the travel expenses and entry fees can add up quick. As a matter of fact, our total on hotel rooms alone last year totaled over $2,500 and our contest entry fees were over $3,200. As we have gotten back to normal and contest have opened back up, this year has taken a larger toll on us financially. So far this year, we have spent over $8,000 just in hotels and entry fees alone!
