"This grant will bring fun, hands-on phonics tools into our kindergarten classrooms to help students learn letter sounds in an exciting, interactive way! For our little learners who love to touch, move, and explore, we’ll provide a phonics-themed item each week that makes the letter sound come alive. These hands-on items would look something like a small squishy apple for the letter a, a bouncy ball for the letter b, and a small car for the letter c. Each week, the items that the kids receive will be added to a classroom chart. This chart will give the students a familiar item to refer to when applying letter sound relationships to their reading and writing assignments. We’ll use phonics-themed stickers, tape, and small items that students will use to build each letter. These fun tools will not only make practicing letter sounds more engaging but will also help strengthen their fine motor skills—like pencil grip, hand-eye coordination, and finger dexterity—which are so important for writing and drawing. These fine motor objects would look something like apple stickers for the letter a, ball stickers for the letter b, and crayon stickers for the letter c. With these exciting materials, our classrooms will become vibrant learning spaces where every child can explore letters and sounds through play, build confidence in reading and writing, and have a blast learning!
